Published originally in the Jewish Insider. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) will bring the $1 billion Iron Dome replenishment bill to the Senate floor on Monday, the senator said Thursday night. Menendez said that he had planned to bring a unanimous consent request on the Iron Dome funding bill, which passed the House last week, to the Senate floor on Thursday night but ultimately delayed until Monday “as a courtesy” to Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) who is currently blocking the request and asking that it be amended. Paul’s amendment, obtained by Jewish Insider on Thursday morning, would rescind all unobligated reconstruction aid to Afghanistan, including aid to non-governmental…

September 25, 2021 - JACK ROSEN: America’s relationship with Israel is stronger than ever

By Jack Rosen, President of the American Jewish Congress Originally published in Times of Israel. After the close relationship between President Trump and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, many expected the US-Israel relationship to falter. Ruth Margalit, a writer with the New Yorker, wrote in January 2021 that “American support (for Israel) now relies on an unlikely alliance of Orthodox Jews and evangelical Christians… Biden may be understandably wary of meaningful gestures.” However, as new Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett arrives in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, the bilateral relationship with the United States is at once very different from…

June 13, 2021 - American Jewish Congress Congratulates Israel on Establishment of New Government

The American Jewish Congress warmly congratulates the State of Israel, America’s closest ally in the Middle East, for establishing a new unity government. Israel has once again proven that it is a remarkably strong and vibrant democracy, even more so when considering that the governing coalition will for the first time include a political party from Israel’s Arab population. This is not only a celebration of democracy, but also the clearest refutation to all the disgraceful accusations that Israel is an "apartheid" state.  Jack Rosen, President of American Jewish Congress, congratulated the new government:  “I congratulate incoming Prime Minister Naftali Bennett upon the…

May 26, 2021 - POLITICO: Rising antisemitism strains Democrats and GOP alike

Originally published in POLITICO. The rise of antisemitic incidents around the country this month has forced Democrats and Republicans alike into uncomfortable corners as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict hit a flashpoint. The recent violence in Gaza has been the backdrop for discriminatory attacks against Jews in multiple U.S. states, in addition to other cities around the world, that have highlighted the growing partisan divide in Washington over how best to achieve peace in the decadeslong war. On Thursday the Anti-Defamation League shared early reports of 193 antisemitic incidents in the U.S. amid a week of conflict in the Middle East, compared with 131…

After being asked on Face the Nation about our American Jewish Congress's statement, Senator Bernie Sanders agreed that everyone "should tone down the rhetoric."   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt9kS7TykOE

May 12, 2021 - American Jewish Congress Condemns Terror Attacks Against Israeli Civilians

The American Jewish Congress condemns in the strongest possible terms the rocket attacks being conducted against Israeli civilians from the Gaza Strip by the terrorist organizations Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Hamas and the PIJ are to blame for this dangerous and unprovoked aggression. We stand with Israel and strongly support its inherent right to defend itself and its citizens against these unprovoked attacks.  We therefore call on both the Biden Administration and the international community to assign clear blame for this violence onto these terrorist organizations while making every possible effort to deescalate the situation. These cynical attacks…
