November 24, 2023, New York, NY – President Biden continues his unrelenting support for Israel through the war’s sixth week in a principled stand that defies political pressures and cuts through disinformation. This moral clarity was on display in his Washington Post op-ed over the weekend where he rejected a ceasefire and convincingly argued in favor of breaking the cycle of violence by eliminating its cause, and rallied the nation behind his emergency funding request for Israel and Ukraine.
President Biden is showing matchless leadership under tremendous pressures. There always is an easier way but the president opted for what is right. He chose to be principled and not politically expedient.
The president is trying to help civilians in Gaza while ensuring the security not only of Israel but also of Arab partners in the region. Durable peace for Israel and the Jewish people appears to be his overriding concern. His approach is reasonable, seeing through misleading information by terrorists while deliberating over post-crisis Gaza, pushing hostage negotiations, and not losing sight of the vision for an integrated Middle East.
The American Jewish Congress recognizes and acknowledges the difficult work the president is putting behind the scenes to get things back in order in the Middle East and in Europe. It is not an easy task but the cost of not trying is even bigger. A strong Israel is not only the best guarantee for the security of the Jewish people, but it also helps prevent America from being drawn into wider regional conflicts.

President, American Jewish Congress
