Antisemitism - American Jewish Congress - Page 10

Antisemitism has arguably reached new heights in recent years. While Jews have certainly come a long way since the Holocaust, anti-Jewish sentiment is still prevalent across the globe.

As the threat of Islamic extremism spreads across the world and right-wing antisemitic parties gain traction globally, Jews must remain united to fight antisemitism.

Our recent work tackling antisemitism includes...

February 27, 2022 - American Jewish Congress Calls for Expulsion of Rep. Greene and Rep. Gosar After Their Appearance at Antisemitic, White Supremacist AFPAC

The American Jewish Congress deplores the participation of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) at the antisemitic and white supremacist America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC). This sickening behavior of normalizing antisemitism and white supremacist beliefs, and directly associating with extremists, makes both Rep. Greene and Rep. Gosar unfit to serve in Congress.AFPAC is founded and hosted by the renowned Holocaust denier and Nazi-sympathizer Nick Fuentes and this year was sponsored by the alternative social media platform Gab, the platform of choice for antisemites, white supremacists, and neo-Nazis. Rep. Greene’s participation as an in-person guest speaker and Rep. Gosar’s…

January 20, 2022 - JACK ROSEN: The many faces of antisemitic terror

Published originally in Newsday and Times of Israel. The resolution of an 11-hour armed hostage situation at the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue in Texas last week may have ended a day of horror, but the incident continues an all-too-familiar escalation of antisemitic hate and violence in this country and proves that terrorism has many faces. That the suspect—a British citizen—sought the release of an imprisoned Islamic terrorist by attacking a synagogue was itself something of an aberration: The FBI has determined that white, right-wing, antisemitic homegrown extremists are America’s number-one terrorist risk. The transnational nature of this attack, and the…

December 6, 2021 - POLITICO: Islamophobia and anti-Semitism controversies dominate Congress. Diplomacy, not so much.

Published originally in POLITICO. Six months after a shooting war in Gaza, Congress is more involved in controversies over Islamophobia and anti-Semitism than it is in resuscitating a two-state solution in the Middle East. Support for the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel has notably declined on Capitol Hill as poisonous rhetoric replaces policy debates about long-term security in a region where conflict has flared for more than a generation. For many lawmakers — and more prominently in the GOP as of late — the weaponization of Islamophobia and anti-Semitism has become the rule, not the exception. This past…

December 3, 2021 - HAARETZ: Fox Host Lara Logan Retweets Defense of Fauci Comparison to Nazi Doctor Mengele

Published originally in Haaretz. Fox host Lara Logan shared a Twitter message defending her comparison of a top U.S. health official to infamous Nazi doctor Josef Mengele on Wednesday, lashing out at her critics and sharing a number of baseless conspiracy theories about AIDS and the COVID-19 pandemic. In a series of tweets, the host of the eponymous "Lara Logan Has No Agenda" Fox Nation show accused Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. public health official on infectious diseases, of causing the deaths of 25 children during clinical trials in the 1990s, engaging in unethical experiments on dogs, and setting off the current…

November 12, 2021 - We Need an Antisemitism Envoy Now!

Israel is under fire. More than 4,000 rockets have been launched indiscriminately towards Israeli cities and towns. Fired from Gaza by Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups, these rockets have caused multiple fatalities and injuries. Israel has the right to defend itself and its citizens.

November 3, 2021 - JNS: Exit poll finds decline in Democrat support by Jewish voters in Virginia

Originally published in Jewish News Syndicate (JNS). An exit poll conducted by the American Jewish Congress found a 10 percent decline among Jewish voters in Virginia in support of Democrats following the 2020 election. The exit poll, which was conducted by soliciting text-message responses from a list of Jewish voters in Virginia, received more than 400 responses. According to these results, 63 percent of Jewish voters supported Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, 64, and 37 percent for Republican Glenn Youngkin, 54. Youngkin beat former McAuliffe, who previously served as the state’s governor from 2014 to 2018, in the hotly contested…

October 21, 2021 - PRESS RELEASE: American Jewish Congress Condemns Sunrise Movement’s Rationalization of Antisemitism

The American Jewish Congress condemns today’s statement made by the national Sunrise Movement. While the statement acknowledges that antisemitism is discrimination, it does the bare minimum to distance itself from the antisemitic and exclusionary remarks made by its Washington, DC chapter. Let’s be clear: When Jewish organizations are deliberately targeted, singled out, and potentially exiled because of their support for Israel, and such attacks are not vocally condemned, antisemitic rhetoric is allowed to flourish. This is the dangerous situation that the national Sunrise Movement has created. We therefore call on the national Sunrise Movement to make it clear that it condemns antisemitism and the singling out…

October 21, 2021 - JEWISH INSIDER: Sunrise Movement’s DC chapter boycotts event due to ‘participation of Zionist organizations’

Published originally in Jewish Insider. For progressive advocacy groups, this was supposed to be a make-or-break week on voting rights. After the Senate failed to advance the Freedom to Vote Act on Wednesday, a group of runners, walkers and bikers are set to depart West Virginia today on the Freedom to Vote Relay, culminating in a large Capitol Hill rally in support of voting rights when participants arrive in Washington, D.C, on Saturday.  Instead, the event has become steeped in controversy after the Washington chapter of the Sunrise Movement — an influential progressive environmental advocacy group — released a statement on Tuesday…

October 20, 2021 - PRESS RELEASE: American Jewish Congress Condemns Sunrise Movement’s Antisemitic Call at Freedom to Vote Rally

The American Jewish Congress strongly condemns the decision of the Sunrise Movement’s DC Chapter to boycott an event supporting democracy in Washington, DC, dangerously arguing that three major American Jewish organizations should not participate because of their support for Israel - an anti-democratic act in and of itself. This move by the Sunrise Movement, a prominent organization dedicated to combating the dangers of climate change, is a brazen political power move. By making this decision, it is attempting to intimidate the organizers of the Freedom to Vote Rally into banning these Jewish organizations. This is deeply dangerous, as American Jews have fought for civil rights, civil liberties, the…
