New York, NY, November 9, 2022 – The American Jewish Congress congratulates Governor Kathy Hochul on making history as the first woman elected to represent New York in the state’s highest office. This is a momentous result and shows once again the progress that New Yorkers have made in breaking glass-ceilings.

We wholeheartedly wish the Governor success in her work to the benefit of our great state. We have had the pleasure of engaging with Gov. Hochul recently, and we know firsthand how invested she is on addressing the challenges facing the Jewish community, first and foremost as it pertains to the increase in antisemitism and hate crimes. She will be a strong and resolute voice in support of Jewish New Yorkers – of all New Yorkers.

During her career, Governor Hochul has had a strong relationship with the Jewish community, first as Member of Congress, and later as Lieutenant Governor. Since she was appointed in the state’s highest position last year, she has maintained close ties with the multitude of Jewish voices in New York and has reaffirmed her strong position in support of Israel, stating that she plans to visit the Jewish State in official capacity soon. Earlier this year, Governor Hochul signed into law a legislative package focusing on Holocaust and in support of Holocaust survivors in the state.

The American Jewish Congress extends our most sincere congratulations to the Governor on this deserved victory. We look forward to continuing our work to foster a brighter tomorrow, together.
