August 3, 2023 - PRESS RELEASE: American Jewish Congress Statement on Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooter Verdict

New York, NY, August 3, 2023 - Yesterday, the perpetrator of the Tree of Life Synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was sentenced to death. While the verdict will not bring back the innocent lives that were lost in that tragic event, we hope that this measure of justice will bring some comfort to the families of the victims, Greater Pittsburgh, the Jewish community, and the entire nation. The deadliest antisemitic attack in U.S. history, the Tree of Life Synagogue massacre was not an isolated attack - it was an attack on America itself. But while we were scarred, our spirit was not broken. Our hearts will continue to hurt for…

December 13, 2022 - PRESS RELEASE: American Jewish Congress Applauds Establishment of Inter-Agency Group to Counter Antisemitism

New York, NY, December 13, 2022 – Yesterday, President Biden announced the establishment of a new White House initiative; an Inter-agency Group to Counter Antisemitism. In response to this welcomed and necessary move, the American Jewish Congress applauds and thanks the President for his leadership. We look forward to assisting this new edge of the U.S. Government in their efforts to counter antisemitism and prevent antisemitic attacks. In the last few years, targeted attacks against the Jewish people, both at home and abroad, have seen a record rise. With the stated goal of developing a national strategy to counter antisemitism, the…

June 7, 2022 - PRESS RELEASE: American Jewish Congress Supports Indictments Against Key Extremists Tied with the January 6th Insurrection

NEW YORK, June 7, 2022 - On January 6th, 2021, our nation was assaulted - insurrectionists attacked our Capitol, and our democracy was forced under fire. Images of known antisemites and neo-Nazis, galavanting through the halls of Congress laid brand in our minds - and the very symbol of the American dream was wounded as a result. As those wounds begin to heal, and those images may fade, our spirits are working to become solidified once again. Yesterday, Enrique Tarrio, a former leader of the known white supremacist organization, the Proud Boys, along with four of his top lieutenants, were indicted on…

May 18, 2022 - JNS: Jewish groups react to mass shooting in Buffalo, lamenting dismal shared experience of late

Published originally in the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS). While no Jewish people were victims of Saturday’s shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, N.Y., in which 10 people were killed and three injured, Jewish communal organizations reacted strongly to the incident, which was allegedly inspired by the suspect’s racist and anti-Semitic views. At about 2:30 p.m., 18-year-old Payton Gendron of Conklin, N.Y., arrived at the parking lot of Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo. Wearing a tactical helmet, body armor and a body camera through which he livestreamed his actions, he shot four people in the parking lot before entering the store,…

May 18, 2022 - PRESS RELEASE: American Jewish Congress Advisory Board Condemns Buffalo Attack, Calls for Increased Accountability Among Social Media CEOs

New York, May 18, 2022 - In a strong condemnation of the racially-motivated shooting in Buffalo, members of the American Jewish Congress Advisory Board to Counter Domestic Terrorism and White Supremacy extend support for Governor Kathy Hochul’s call to hold social media company CEOs accountable for hosting and proliferating hate speech and calls for violence. A video live-streamed by the attacker was circulated online and gained over 3 million views before the American Jewish Congress successfully worked to remove the video on Streamable, bringing the role of social media platforms in perpetuating violence to the forefront. Prior to the attack, the shooter also posted a manifesto…

May 16, 2022 - PRESS RELEASE: American Jewish Congress successfully removes Buffalo shooter video from circulation

New York, May 15, 2022 - The American Jewish Congress strongly condemns the racially-motivated mass schooting in Buffalo, New York and shares our prayers and deepest sympathies with the victims, their families and friends, and the people of Buffalo. This shocking crime is the latest example of how white supremacist radicalization is directly threatening the security of American communities. Our failure to take action now will continue to make minority communities the targets of violence. Shockingly, a video live-streamed by the attacker as he shot and killed 10 people, began circulating online shortly after the attack and gained over 3…

May 3, 2022 - JACK ROSEN & MAX ROSE: White Supremacist Extremism Is No Longer a Domestic Issue. It’s a Global One

Published originally in Newsweek. When it comes to domestic terrorism—white extremist terrorism in particular—policymakers, law enforcement and the general public have shown themselves to have a serious blind spot: the fact that homegrown domestic terrorism in the U.S. is deeply interwoven with a global network of white supremacist terrorist activity. And much of it is laced with antisemitism, sexism, racism and visceral hatred. This reality is the product of a hyper-connected world and the sad flip-side of America's cultural and political influence. And if we want to effectively contain this violent threat, we need to stop mislabeling white supremacist extremist terrorism…

August 11, 2021 - HILL REPORTER: Until She is Permanently Banned from Twitter, Marjorie Taylor Greene Will Continue to Spread Disinformation

Originally published in the Hill Reporter. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has proven once again that she will continue to disinform the American public in her quest for political power. This is why Twitter’s decision to temporarily suspend her for a second time for repeated offenses and disinformation about COVID-19 is, while laudable, clearly not enough. Her actions create a direct threat to public health and safety and she cannot be trusted to stop spreading disinformation in the future. The Jewish community knows all too well that Rep. Greene will not cease her COVID disinformation campaign. This is because Greene has shown,…

July 29, 2021 - PRESS RELEASE: The January 6th Select Committee Must Explore the Antisemitic Nature of the Capitol Storming

The American Jewish Congress is strongly encouraged by the start of the House Select Committee’s investigation of the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. We firmly support its goal of providing a comprehensive accounting of the factors that led to this unprecedented extremist attack on American values, democracy, and institutions. Further, we believe that this investigation provides a unique opportunity for the American people to learn about the antisemitic nature of the extremists who stormed the Capitol. No stone should be left unturned in seeking the truth about this assault. We therefore strongly encourage the members of the Select Committee to investigate the…
