“The American Jewish Congress warmly congratulates Kathy Hochul upon being sworn in as the first female Governor of New York. We wish her success in leading the Empire State and in the important work of addressing and serving the needs of all New Yorkers during these challenging times.
As a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives and later on as New York’s Lieutenant Governor, Ms. Hochul has shown that she deeply understands the concerns of the Jewish community. During her career, she has stood strongly against antisemitism and has denounced all manifestations of hate. With New York facing a disturbing rise in hate crimes, the Jewish community is heartened by her experience and looks forward to her leadership.
We would like to take this opportunity to also thank outgoing Governor Andrew Cuomo for his dedication and service. Along the years, Governor Cuomo left an indelible mark by showing that he was a true ally of the Jewish community and a steadfast friend and supporter of the State of Israel. We wish him success in his future endeavors.”
