New York, March 25th, 2022 – The American Jewish Congress condemns the violent terrorist attack perpetrated by the Yemeni Houthi Insurgency on an oil facility in Jeddah, located in the Kindom of Saudi Arabia. This dangerous display against peace and security is just the latest example of actions carried out by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region, including the United Arab Emirates, an Abraham Accords partner.

This bombardment, which comes after multiple attacks over the past week, endangers key civilian infrastructure and risks affecting global energy security. This point rings even more true as it comes at a turbulent time of uncertainty and volatility in worldwide markets.

The international community must take action against the Houthis and show that there are real consequences for efforts that seek to destabilize our Middle East partners, along with the broader region. As such, we reiterate our call to the U.S. Administration for the re-designation of the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

This much-needed step would contribute to curtailing sources of financing and access to armaments, and will directly affect our abilities to confront the emboldened actions of this aggressive Iranian proxy.
