November 12, 2024, New York, NY – The American Jewish Congress praises President-elect Trump’s selection of Representative Elise Stefanik as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Rep. Stefanik is an excellent choice for the position, and her leadership will help make a difference at a forum, which has, for far too long, exhibited a bias against Israel and the Jewish people.
Rep. Stefanik has been a steadfast ally in the fight against antisemitism, never wavering in her dedication to protecting Jewish communities both in the United States and abroad. We are particularly thankful for her efforts to hold colleges and universities accountable for their failure to take action in response to the antisemitism crisis on campuses. Her strong and determined approach to combating antisemitism will be invaluable at the United Nations.
At the same time, Rep. Stefanik has shown strong support for Israel, America’s closest ally in the Middle East. During her time serving in the U.S. Congress, Rep. Stefanik has consistently advocated for Israel’s security, prosperity, and right to defend itself. Her presence at the UN will serve as a critical counterbalance to biased narratives against Israel, ensuring that the realities on the ground are rightfully represented on the world stage. Importantly, Rep. Stefanik has been vocal about the systemic issues within UN institutions like UNRWA, which has been infiltrated by Hamas and has long been accused of contributing to the indoctrination of Palestinians with antisemitic hate. She will play a key role in addressing these long-term issues.
The American Jewish Congress is confident that Rep. Stefanik will bring her vision, dedication, and strength to confront the many challenges that lie ahead. We look forward to working with Rep. Stefanik as she advances American national interests at the UN, and we eagerly anticipate the positive impact her leadership will bring to the UN and to U.S. relations worldwide.
