The American Jewish Congress congratulates the Israeli people for the establishment of the new government. Today’s agreement between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and General Benjamin Gantz for the creation of a unity government is welcome news, especially considering the emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic and the international challenges facing the country.
Prime Minister Netanyahu and General Gantz have dedicated their long and distinguished careers to honorably serving the State of Israel and the Israeli people. By putting the future of Israel over political differences and agreeing to govern together, they showed once again true leadership and commitment. During their successful careers they have established long-standing relations in the United States and deeply understand and appreciate the importance of the U.S.-Israeli partnership.
The new Israeli government faces complex challenges, but also high expectations. We wish the new Israeli government success in its work towards achieving the security and prosperity of the Jewish State. As new opportunities for peace have arisen, the new government will have to leverage this new window of opportunity for achieving sustainable peace. The unwavering U.S. support for Israel is critical in guaranteeing Israel’s security and supporting its efforts towards peace and normalization.
We look forward to working with the new government to reinforce the U.S. bipartisan support for Israel and take U.S.-Israel relations to new heights.
