The American Jewish Congress applauds the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee for adopting the U.S.-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2020.

This important bipartisan legislation provides full security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding. Considering multiple security threats in the region, it is vital for Israel to have the means to defend itself. At the same time, the committee approved a provision for enhanced American-Israeli partnerships in the fight against COVID-19. Israel is a leader in the medical field and cooperation between American and Israeli companies can lead to important innovations in the fight against the coronavirus.

We thank the committee members and especially Sens. James Risch (R-ID), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Chris Coons (D-DE), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Ted Cruz (R-TX) for their leadership. We look forward to the passing of this critical bill by the full Senate.
