April 19, 2024, New York, NY – Today the U.S. House of Representatives adopted with a strong bipartisan majority a rule to consider a package that includes much-needed emergency aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan. The American Jewish Congress strongly supports this package, presented by Speaker Mike Johnson, which serves to advance American national security and interests.

American Jewish Congress President Daniel Rosen praised Speaker Johnson for the package: “We commend Speaker Mike Johnson for doing what’s right for America and our allies. We understand that this is no easy task, however, the security threats that Israel is facing are critical and existential, and the same is true for Ukraine as well. It is pivotal that Congress does its job and in a bipartisan fashion makes sure that this package is passed as soon as possible and delivered to President Biden’s desk.”

Vice President Dr. Munr Kazmir applauded the legislation: “Speaker Johnson is showing tremendous leadership and courage. While some members of the Republican caucus might have legitimate concerns about some aspects unrelated to Israel of the broader package, they should focus on the bigger picture. The deadly threats that Israel faces multiply by the day and the United States must show with facts its ironclad commitment to Israel’s security.”

Secretary Dr. Ben Chouake urged the House to pass the bill: “Iran’s unprecedented direct attack against Israel last week demonstrated the urgency of passing the supplemental and providing Israel with aid. Speaker Johnson and all Congressional leaders have shown that they stand with our ally vis-à-vis Iran’s evil regime and its network of terror proxies throughout the Middle East. It is now up to the full House to make sure that this package is passed as soon as possible so that the U.S. Senate can quickly consider it as well.”

The American Jewish Congress will continue working to ensure the swift passage of aid to Israel and that the United States stands with our allies.
