New York, NY, November 3, 2022 – As the final reports of Israel’s election come to light, we recognize and congratulate the historic achievements of the Israeli democratic process. For the fifth time in four years, the people of Israel have spoken in a way that cherishes the same democratic values that tie the United States and Israel together.

The American Jewish Congress congratulates Opposition-leader Benjamin Netanyahu for winning the elections and once again earning the trust and vote of the Israeli people. As the longest-serving Prime Minister in the history of the State of Israel, he understands the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship like no other. We look forward to working with him and strengthening this unbreakable alliance, ensuring Israel’s security, just as we have done in his previous mandates.

In any election, we understand that not everyone is always satisfied, but it is the beauty of the democratic process to turn voice into action. That is true for America, and it is true also for Israel – and it is understandable. It is the hope of our organization and of Jewish communities around the world – that a chance for success is afforded to those who will make up Israel’s government, and as Israel retires its most diverse Knesset in the country’s history – that its pattern of progress will continue and expand. With Prime Minister Lapid’s tenure drawing to a close, we thank him and the outgoing government for their important work and for the leadership shown at the helm of the Jewish State.

In these difficult times, Israel’s need for U.S. support is absolutely critical, and the American Jewish Congress will work tirelessly to ensure that support is stronger than ever. We look forward to the next chapter of this essential relationship.
