New York, NY, January 27, 2023 – The American Jewish Congress is outraged by yet another terror attack impacting innocent Israeli civilians. Today, a shooting struck out at a synagogue in Jerusalem’s Neve Yaakov neighborhood, leaving at least seven victims dead and several others more wounded. On Shabbat no less, a period of reflection on the week having passed, this attack leaves yet another scar and devastation in its wake.
This horrible tragedy is another reminder of the dangers that Israel faces, and the struggles that are shared by countless Jewish Communities around the world. Israel is forced to defend herself each and every day against tyrants that wish to do her and her citizens harm; Jewish and non-Jewish alike. Through tragedies like this, we are reminded of the importance to ensure Israel’s safety, and to answer the needs of our Jewish communities wherever they may be.
The American Jewish Congress extends our most sincere condolences to all those affected by this outrageous attack – and we thank Israeli first responders for their courage and bravery, which stopped the attacker before he could do even more harm. As always, we are committed to assisting the Israeli government however possible, and continuing to advocate for the necessary protections and safeguards Israel both requires and deserves.
May the memories of those lost forever be a blessing.
