May 1, 2024, New York, NY—Last night, the NYPD intervened to remove the illegal encampment at Columbia University and cleared the occupied campus building where antisemitic protesters had blockaded themselves.
The antisemitic fervor emanating from these protests and acts of vandalism has transformed Columbia’s campus into a danger zone for Jewish students. We thank Mayor Eric Adams and the NYPD for taking steps to restore normalcy. It was high time to demonstrate that violent behavior, trespassing, and agitation against the Jewish community, including calls for violence, would not be tolerated.
The American Jewish Congress urges mayors and police departments across the country to follow their example.
