The American Jewish Congress is shocked by the deadly attacks in Atlanta, Georgia, in which eight people were killed and additional others wounded. We call for a thorough investigation by law enforcement authorities into this devastating act of violence, which is the worst mass killing in the United States in the last two years.

We also want to explicitly share our solidarity with the Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The majority of the victims were Asian-American women and this brutal attack has heightened the concerns of the Asian American community, which has already been facing a rising tide of hate crimes and violence. As American Jews, we empathize with the pain that attacks such as this, targeted against a specific group just because of who they are, have caused. These attacks create deeper wounds than solely the immediate painful loss of life. We stand in solidarity with the Asian American community and against all forms of hate, bigotry, and violence.
