“Today I had the pleasure of talking to my friend Mayor Filatov and hearing directly from the Mayor about his perspective on the recent developments.
The conversation was greatly informative, as we discussed different topics, particularly the escalation between Russia and Ukraine. I first had the pleasure of meeting the Mayor in 2018, when he participated at our annual International Mayors Conference in Israel. I reiterated in our call today that we look forward to furthering ties with local leaders that are committed to bringing positive change for their communities.
Both Ukraine and Russia have considerable Jewish communities, and the American Jewish Congress will continue to monitor the situation closely. We call for de-escalation and we look forward to seeing renewed efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the current crisis.”
