The American Jewish Congress applauds the government of Lithuania for taking action against the Iranian-backed terrorist organization Hezbollah and banning all its activities in the country. By joining the ranks of the United States, Israel, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and others in their clear refutation of Hezbollah’s terrorist activities, Lithuania is showing decisiveness and leadership in efforts to counter terrorism and threats to peace and stability.
As Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said in a statement released by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hezbollah uses “terrorist means that poste threat to the security of a significant number of countries, including Lithuania.”
American Jewish Congress President Jack Rosen saluted the decision of the government of Lithuania: “This is an important step in the fight against terrorism on European soil. The United States and Israel have been active in highlighting the dangers stemming from Hezbollah’s activities and calling for the European partners to recognize and react against this menace. We praise Lithuania’s determination on this front and hope that its decision will serve as an example for European countries and the European Union to similarly take strong actions against Hezbollah.“
