[New York, NY – March 10th, 2022] The American Jewish Congress hails Israeli President Herzog’s historic visit to Turkey and his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The relationship between the two countries has always been important from an economic, strategic, and diplomatic point of view, however it has suffered considerably in the last decade. This first high-level visit in Turkey from an Israeli leader in 14 years paves the way for the normalization and advancement of relations after years of estrangement.

American Jewish Congress President Jack Rosen commented on the visit:

“This was an important opportunity to renew a partnership that has so much potential, for both these countries, as well as for the larger region. I congratulate President Herzog for his determination and leadership in jumpstarting the relationship between Turkey and Israel and applaud President Erdoğan for his commitment to opening a new chapter in the relations between the two countries. The people of Israel and Turkey stand to greatly benefit from this, as does regional stability and cooperation.”

Believing in the importance of relations between Israel and Turkey, and having worked towards advancing them for many years, the American Jewish Congress will continue to support renewed dialogue, stronger economic and trade ties, and enhanced cooperation between the countries.
