Resolving Conflict and Advancing Peace - American Jewish Congress - Page 2

The American Jewish Congress is firmly committed to a two-state solution in Israel and works to condemn violence between Israelis and Palestinians. We fully support maintaining open dialogue between Palestinian and Israeli leaders in an effort to secure peace, security, and prosperity for all. However, we do not approve of the hateful rhetoric used by Palestinians to incite violence against Jews and Israelis.

We are also strong supporters of regional peace initiatives, including the Abraham Accords which changed the old status quo and reshaped the Middle East. We look forward to seeing more and more countries and leaders embracing this moment and paving the way towards a better future for their people and the region as a whole.

Our recent work supporting a resolution of the conflict and promoting peace includes...

May 22, 2021 - WASHINGTON POST: Jewish American groups appeal to Biden White House after string of antisemitic attacks related to Israel

Originally published in the Washington Post. Several of the most prominent U.S. Jewish organizations appealed Friday to the Biden White House to take measures to combat antisemitism after a string of attacks on Jews across the country related to the Mideast conflict between Israel and Hamas. Jews in New York City, Los Angeles and south Florida were physically or verbally assaulted by individuals claiming the cause of the Palestinians, among other incidents, in the 11 days since fighting erupted in Israel and Gaza. A yarmulke-wearing man was hospitalized after being attacked by a group of people making antisemitic statements near…

May 12, 2021 - American Jewish Congress Condemns Terror Attacks Against Israeli Civilians

The American Jewish Congress condemns in the strongest possible terms the rocket attacks being conducted against Israeli civilians from the Gaza Strip by the terrorist organizations Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Hamas and the PIJ are to blame for this dangerous and unprovoked aggression. We stand with Israel and strongly support its inherent right to defend itself and its citizens against these unprovoked attacks.  We therefore call on both the Biden Administration and the international community to assign clear blame for this violence onto these terrorist organizations while making every possible effort to deescalate the situation. These cynical attacks…

May 12, 2021 - Stand With Israel Against Terrorism

Israel is under fire. More than 4,000 rockets have been launched indiscriminately towards Israeli cities and towns. Fired from Gaza by Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups, these rockets have caused multiple fatalities and injuries. Israel has the right to defend itself and its citizens.

March 5, 2021 - American Jewish Congress Condemns ICC’s Decision to Investigate Israel

The American Jewish Congress strongly condemns the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open an investigation into Israel. The decision of the prosecutor to proceed with this investigation is misguided, lacks legitimacy, and undermines the mission of the Court. The singling out of Israel by the ICC, especially when some of the worst violators of human rights around the world are excluded from such scrutiny, attests to the biased nature of this probe. The fact that the ICC’s investigation was cheered by the terrorist organization Hamas only reinforces its polarizing and dangerous nature. We strongly believe that human…

December 10, 2020 - American Jewish Congress Welcomes Morocco-Israel Normalization Agreement

The American Jewish Congress welcomes the normalization of ties between Morocco and Israel. Our President Jack Rosen has met King Mohammed before and found him to be open and welcoming. Morocco has been a strong partner for peace behind the scenes for decades. It’s now thrilling, on the first night of Hanukkah, to see Morocco step into the light to publicly embrace Israel. To all of our Moroccan Jewish friends, we thank you for building bridges over the years between America, Israel, and Morocco. May you cherish this new era of peace.

November 29, 2020 - NEW YORK POST: Jewish and pro-Israel groups angling to cement Trump gains

Originally published in New York Post. With President-elect Joe Biden just weeks away from moving into the White House, Jewish and pro-Israel groups are racing to nail down many of the gains from the Trump era — and are planning to aggressively lobby the new administration against any reversals. Most of all, leading US-Israel machers are looking to keep the US out of a new deal with Iran, or short of that — influence a future deal that corrects for what they say were many of the mistakes of the original. The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the deal was…

November 23, 2020 - Statement of Support for Tony Blinken’s Nomination as Secretary of State

The American Jewish Congress congratulates President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris for their excellent choice of Tony Blinken to be the country’s next Secretary of State.  We have worked closely with Tony over the years on multiple issues, from advancing peace and security for Israel to confronting Iran’s destabilizing behavior in the Middle East to combating Antisemitism and all forms of hate. Tony has proven time and again his ability to advance the interests of the United States by brokering difficult diplomatic agreements on these issues while working across the aisle to secure them. Because of Tony's recent…

October 23, 2020 - American Jewish Congress hails the normalization of relations between Israel and Sudan

The American Jewish Congress hails the historic announcement that Sudan has agreed to end the state of war and normalize relations with Israel. Sudan becomes the third Arab state to become part of the Abraham Accords – following the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain - and the fifth Arab state overall to make peace with Israel. This is another triumph of dialogue and diplomacy. We congratulate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Sudanese Chairman of the Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok for this decisive step towards peace. We thank President Donald Trump…

October 13, 2020 - Joel Rubin appointed as Executive Director of the American Jewish Congress

American Jewish Congress President Jack Rosen is excited to announce that the organization has hired Joel Rubin to be its next Executive Director. Rubin brings a wealth of both Jewish community and Washington, DC experience to the position, having worked for more than two decades as a Jewish activist, Congressional aide, political advisor, and national security official in both Republican and Democratic administrations. The hiring of Rubin builds upon the storied 102-year-old legacy of the American Jewish Congress as a leader of the American Jewish community. The organization has played a central role in the most significant events impacting both…

September 26, 2020 - We must not cancel Yitzhak Rabin

Statement in response to reports that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has withdrawn from an event commemorating the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin.  "Yitzhak Rabin gave his life to the struggle for peace. He was assassinated because he was a peacemaker and we should never forget it. History is replete with imperfect leaders who have bent humanity towards peace and progress. Rabin was one of those leaders who recognized that peace is made with one’s enemies, not one’s friends. Yet unfortunately, an upcoming event to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his assassination has been dragged into the cancel culture that plagues our current politics. By withdrawing from…
