New York, NY, September 19, 2023 – Leaders of the American Jewish Congress are joining heads of governments, world leaders, and policy experts this week in the opening session of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, and the subsequent high-level General Debate. This year’s session is organized under the theme, ‘Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity.’
Jack Rosen, President of the American Jewish Congress, and Vice Chair Daniel Rosen will be present in the General Assembly for the host-country address by President Joe Biden, where he is set to assert the United States’ role as a global leader in marshaling resources and mustering global will to find solutions to the crises we face today.
Under the leadership of U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the leading multilateral organization has seen a transition in its role and in challenges the world faces. As Mr. Rosen told Secretary-General Guterres in the first meeting between them in UNSG’s office in 2017, the American Jewish Congress will continue to support our mutual goal of helping the world develop innovative solutions to issues facing humanity and shaping the alliances needed to make that happen. Under Mr. Rosen’s leadership, the American Jewish Congress has forged partnerships with leaders of governments and communities, and helped shape opinion in America and the world, in support of UN’s development goals.
Through direct engagement with leaders and governments, the American Jewish Congress has extended support to U.N.-led initiatives on peace, climate change, and on development goals that we all agreed to through an arduous process of global consensus-building.
The American Jewish Congress welcomes global leaders to our great city, and we look forward to joining discussions on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our best wishes are with the delegates as they provide high-level political guidance and formulate actions for achieving the Goals by the target year of 2030.
