June 2, 2025, New York, NY – The American Jewish Congress is horrified by the vicious antisemitic attack that took place during a peaceful march for the hostages’ release in Boulder, Colorado. According to reports from AP and BBC, the attacker, identified as Mohamed Sabri Suleiman, an Egyptian citizen and an illegal immigrant, threw Molotov cocktails at participants and seriously injured at least eight people, including an 88-year-old Holocaust survivor. Eyewitnesses quoted by AP and i24News reported that the assailant shouted “Free Palestine”, “End the Zionists”, and “You are killers, how many children have you killed?” as he launched the assault.
This was not a protest turned violent. This was a targeted, deliberate act of terrorism against Jews. It happened in the open, in America, during the day. And it is part of an alarming pattern that has become far too common.
The American Jewish Congress expects a swift and uncompromising response from authorities. This horrific and brutal chain of attacks must be met with a strong and clear condemnation from every leader, no matter what their views are. We must acknowledge that in the hands of violent extremists, chants like “Free Palestine” are being weaponized as justification for attacking Jews. We cannot allow this to happen in our democratic country. There must be real consequences. Not statements. Not half-measures. Action.
Let’s be clear: this is what antisemitism looks like in 2025. It is no longer hidden. It is loud, aggressive, and violent.
We will not accept this as the new normal. We will not sit quietly while Jews are hunted in the streets of American cities. We expect every leader — local, state, and federal — to act with the urgency and seriousness this moment demands.
If the Jewish community is not safe, then America is not safe.
