John Curtis, born in 1960, is a U.S. Senator from Utah, having assumed office on January 3, 2025.

Prior to his Senate tenure, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2017 to 2025, representing Utah’s 3rd congressional district, and as the mayor of Provo from 2010 to 2017. Curtis is known for his moderate stance and advocacy for market-based environmental solutions.

In the Senate, Curtis serves on the Foreign Relations Committee and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Senator Curtis has expressed public support for Israel, emphasizing Utah’s enduring connection to Israel. He has highlighted his own experience living in a kibbutz as a young student and witnessing firsthand the signing of the 1979 Egypt-Israel peace treaty. 

In 2024, Senator Curtis co-sponsored the Antisemitism Awareness Act (H.R.6090), which directs the Department of Education to consider the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism when investigating discrimination complaints.

Curtis supports continued U.S. security assistance to Israel. He has emphasized the strategic partnership between the two nations and the importance of Israel’s security in Middle Eastern stability. In April 2024, he voted in favor of a foreign aid package that included assistance to Israel. 

Senator Curtis has been critical of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran Nuclear Deal. In 2018, he supported President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the deal, citing its major weaknesses, including inadequate inspections and assurance that Iran will not further develop ballistic missile capabilities.
