Jim Justice, born in 1951, is currently serving as the junior U.S. Senator from West Virginia, having assumed office on January 3, 2025.
Prior to his Senate tenure, he served as the 36th Governor of West Virginia from 2017 to 2025. Initially elected as a Democrat, Justice switched to the Republican Party in 2017. Justice’s legislative priorities focus on energy policy, economic development, and conservative social values. In the Senate, Justice serves on several committees, including the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, the Committee on Appropriations, and the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP).
Below is Senator Justice’s voting record and public positions on issues important to the Jewish community.
As Governor, Justice signed legislation prohibiting state contracts with companies that boycott Israel, as the bill stated that West Virginia has “an economic and a humanitarian obligation to denounce and reject the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement against Israel.”
While Justice has not made extensive public statements on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, his support for Israel and alignment with mainstream U.S. foreign policy suggest support for a negotiated two-state solution.
Justice has consistently supported U.S. security assistance to Israel, emphasizing the importance of the strategic partnership between the two nations.
