Summary

Herschel Walker, born in 1962, is an American political candidate and former football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 12 seasons.

Walker joined the NFL in 1986 and played with several teams in the league. He was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

In 2018, then-President Trump appointed Walker to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, a special Government employee position, and reappointed him to another two year-term on December, 2020. In 2020, Walker endorsed U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler, serving as an honorary co-chair of her Senate campaign.

Below is Herschel Walker’s record and public positions on issues important to the Jewish community.

Walker did not publicly reject a show of support and endorsement from Kanye West, who repeatedly made antisemitic comments and propagated antisemitic conspiracy theories, including by posting a tweet threatening he would go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.”

As reported by Newsweek, “Herschel Walker [was forced] to cancel a Texas fundraiser after details emerged that the event’s host used an anti-vaccine symbol that contained a swastika as her Twitter profile picture.” Mr. Walker failed to quickly condemn the use of the symbol and what it represented.

In a statement, Walker argued that he opposes efforts to defund Israel’s Iron Dome air-defense system and expressed his belief that America’s security is enhanced when it has stronger ties to Israel’s military and intelligence services.

He would also oppose efforts to scapegoat Israel in the United Nations and fight against anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) efforts. He described Palestinian violence against Israeli as terrorism and said that he supports the Taylor Force Act,  a legislation that aimed to curtail payments to individuals associated with terrorist acts and to the families of those that died while committing terrorist attacks.

Walker called the Abraham Accords among the Trump administration’s greatest accomplishments. He promised to continue supporting efforts to have more Arab countries reach normalization agreements with Israel. He also emphasized that a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must come from bilateral negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.
