A member of Congress from the Chicago area since 2023 and running for reelection in 2026, Ramirez is the lead sponsor of the Block the Bombs Act and one of the most active House advocates for restricting United States arms to Israel. She has accused Israel of committing a genocide in Gaza.

Block the Bombs Act and the genocide accusation
In May 2025 Ramirez introduced the Block the Bombs Act, the legislation she is best known for on this issue, which would prohibit the transfer of weapons to Israel. The bill is a partial arms embargo; it does not restrict missile defense systems such as Iron Dome. Ramirez has stated flatly that Israel is committing a genocide, and she held a press conference with the anti-Israel activist Mahmoud Khalil to call for an arms embargo.
Votes on military aid to Israel
Ramirez has consistently voted against military aid to Israel. In May 2024 she voted no on the Israel Security Assistance Support Act. In October 2023 she voted no on a resolution standing with Israel after the Hamas attack.
Antisemitism measures and her own record on antisemitism
Ramirez voted no to H.Res. 894 in December 2023, which declared that anti Zionism is antisemitism, and against the Antisemitism Awareness Act, which would codify the IHRA definition. Her posture has drawn criticism from Jewish colleagues; Representative Brad Schneider, a Jewish Democrat from Illinois, said that a small group of progressives including Ramirez had been exceedingly antagonistic toward Israel and had at times crossed into rhetoric he considered antisemitic.
