    Debra Fischer was born in 1951 and is currently serving as the senior United States Senator from Nebraska. Senator Fischer was reelected in 2018 and her seat will be up for election in 2024.

    Fischer was first elected in the Senate in 2012. Prior to that, she served in the Nebraska Unicameral, the nonpartisan legislative body of the state of Nebraska. She represented the 43rd legislative district from 2005 to 2013. Senator Fischer is a member of the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s leadership team, serving as counsel to the Majority Leader since 2015.

    Senator Fischer is currently serving on the Armed Services Committee; the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee; the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee; and the Committee on Rules and Administration.

    Below is Senator Fischer’s voting record and public positions on issues important to the Jewish community.

    Senator Fischer opposed the Iran Deal. She opposed UN Security Council Resolution 2334 that claimed that Israel’s settlements have no legal validity and supported the move of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.

    Senator Fischer opposes the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and cosponsored the Israel Anti-Boycott Act and the Combating BDS Act of 2017, two bills that aimed to fight discriminatory boycotts that target Israel.

    In 2019, she voted for the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel.
