The American Jewish Congress condemns Senator Dan Sullivan’s antisemitic ad against his Jewish opponent.
Senator Sullivan’s campaign disseminated a digital ad that clearly employs age-old antisemitic tropes and innuendo. The ad featured Democratic Senate candidate Al Gross surrounded by cash, implying that the latter is buying the elections. At the same time, the ad shows in the shadows a sinister-looking image of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who is also Jewish, and evokes the antisemitic trope that Jews and Jewish money control politics and our government.
Antisemitism and bigotry have no place in legitimate political discourse. Whether it is from the political left or the political right we must be consistent in calling out antisemitism. Senator Sullivan should unequivocally apologize. We call upon all Alaskans to condemn and disassociate from Senator Sullivan’s blatantly antisemitic ad and all elected officials or candidates that invoke similar hurtful antisemitic tropes in describing Jewish Americans.
