[New York, NY – September 30th, 2021] Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, joined the American Jewish Congress today for a Jewish Community Conversation. In his discussion with American Jewish Congress President Jack Rosen, and in response to questions from the audience, Sen. Menendez reiterated his strong support for Israel and its security.

Sen. Menendez announced today that he would be proposing on the Senate floor, for Unanimous Consent consideration, legislation guaranteeing $1 billion in funding for the replenishment of Israel’s Iron Dome defense system. Such legislation passed the House last week. In addition, Sen. Menendez was unequivocal about the need to address Iran’s nuclear threat, stating:

I have been clear that I don’t think a return to the JCPOA is sufficient to constrain Iran’s malign activity. And increasingly, I don’t even know how it’s possible when they are so far out of compliance. The fact remains, we cannot isolate Iran alone. We need a comprehensive strategy, one backed with international sanctions that our allies are willing to enforce. And one that constrains Iran’s malign regional behavior and its ballistic missile program.”

The conversation with Sen. Menendez was on the record and is available HERE or below.

In advance of today’s conversation, President Jack Rosen stated:

We are delighted to have the opportunity to hear directly from a longstanding friend of the Jewish community and of the American Jewish Congress. Sen. Menendez is not only one of the most authoritative voices in Congress on foreign affairs, but he is also a clear-eyed leader who understands like no one else the regional threats facing the United States and Israel and how to mitigate them.

We look forward to hearing from him on the many sensitive issues of key concern to the Jewish community, including about Iran’s disturbing advancement in its nuclear program and what comes next.”
