American Jewish Congress Statement on today's Anti-Israel UN Security Council resolution and its developments

American Jewish Congress President Jack Rosen released the following statement applauding Egypt, after it requested that there would be no vote on an anti-Israel resolution that was set for a vote today in the UN Security Council:

“The UN Security Council resolution originally proposed by Egypt and promoted by the Palestinians was severely biased against Israel and would have served to be divisive across the region. Many in the Middle East are fighting common enemies –ISIS, Iranian regime, Al-Qaeda etc., as Egypt's request not to vote on the resolution today will allow the region to focus on more critical challenges.

“The American Jewish Congress has long advocated for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, negotiated by Palestinian and Israeli leaders without outside interference. One-sided measures at the United Nations Security Council only confuse an already complicated situation, while further fueling the conflict, delegitimizing one party and emboldening the pro-BDS (Boycott, Divestment Movement) movement. “We applaud Egypt for changing direction, as it will avoid a potential collision course between the Obama and Trump administrations.”
