NEW YORK —This week, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) failed to generate enough votes to approve a resolution which ignores the Jewish people’s connection to historic areas in Jerusalem’s Old City. In response to this development, American Jewish Congress (AJCongress) President Jack Rosen issued the following statement:

"The United Nations already suffers from a credibility gap when it comes to impartiality toward Israelis and Palestinians. This resolution would have only served to harm the UN and its affiliated bodies’ reputation and effectiveness. If UNESCO truly wants to improve the situation on the ground in Jerusalem, then it is critical for them to take a much more fair, balanced and historically accurate approach going forward.”
